Control System Upgrade for Renewable Integration
Upgrading West Angelas Diesel Power Station Control System for Renewable Integration
In the Pilbara Region of Western Australia, X2 Engineering collaborated with a Tier 1 mining client to execute a brownfields obsolescence project within a critical system.
The aim was to update a legacy control system at the West Angelas Diesel Power Station without any downtime to operations, enabling the integration of renewable technology. Our team managed the design and engineering of an SEL protection relay upgrade, transitioned from a Quantum to M580 system, delivered a new Citect SCADA system for the power station, interfaced protection relays, configured and commissioned the network, conducted offsite factory acceptance testing, supplied and tested hardware, and completed onsite installation and commissioning.
Project challenges included delivering the installation within a tight 12-hour blackout window and interfacing with multiple vendors to provide protection studies and high-voltage testing.
