Wharf PLC Obsolescence
Rapid Upgrade of Obsolete Wharf PLC Systems in Critical Environment
In Dampier, Western Australia, X2 Engineering partnered with a Tier 1 mining client to upgrade a legacy PLC system within a process-critical switchroom at a port facility.
Tasked with removing and replacing obsolete PLC and IO hardware within a stringent four-day shutdown window, our team faced challenges including working in a critical environment, tight installation and commissioning timelines, and operating within a remote MSIC (Maritime Security Identification Card) area.
We delivered a turnkey solution encompassing thorough assessment and design with extensive Level 2 risk assessments; electrical engineering with new UPS distribution systems; supply and installation of PLC hardware, prefabricated leads, and distribution boards; programming and factory acceptance testing for optimal performance; and extended on-site support post-installation to ensure uninterrupted operations.
